There really is not anything better than a last minute weekend trip to one of our sister cities. This time when I needed a big city cultural fix I chose Vancouver.
First things first, grab a little grub at my new favourite Mexican restaurant La Taqueria on West Hastings, and nothing pairs better with a taco than a cold local beer from Vancouver brewery 33 Acres.
Next, off to visit some dear friends in Steveston, a beautiful little community full of history where the south arm of the Fraser river meets the ocean. This small town has retained its laid back sleepy fishing village feel even though the larger Richmond has now absorbed it.
Gallery Time! I was lucky enough to catch the end of MashUp a show on the history of modernism put on by the Vancouver Gallery.
The MashUp exhibition showcased everything from Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain" to this exhibit on Frank Gehry's first home, I am so jealous of his living room!
There were also works by one of my new favourite artists Ellen Gallagher.
Well all trips must come to an end, there is no better send off than a last minute trip to Granville Island. Yummy market treats and so many beautiful crafts to look at.
